2006 at a GLANCE ! **Achieved** Overnight at Camp William B. Snyder : The scouts camped near Hay Market, VA. One of the scouts planned, provided and cooked all the food to meet advancement requirements. Goose Creek District Freeze-o-ree : Seven ADAMS scouts survived the blizzard at this challenging winter campout with other Goose Creek troops. Duty to God Breakfast, BSA National Meeting : One of our ADAMS scouts represented Muslim scouts at this event in Washington , DC . Merit Badges : Many of our scouts earned merit badges this year including Indian Lore, First Aid, Emergency Preparedness, Forestry, Animal Science, Mammal Study, and Wilderness Survival. Swimming : One scout completed the BSA Swimmer Test. Cub Scout Award Ceremony : One scout received the Arrow of Light award. Billy Goat Hike : The Troop hiked 5 mikes including an unbelievable scramble over 1.7 miles of boulders and near vertical rocks at the Potomac Gorge. Wilderness Survival : The Troop Leadership Core attended Mountain Shepherd Survival School where they slept without tents in George Washington National Forest, learned how to start a fire without matches or a lighter, purify their own water and many other survival skills. They shared their adventure with another troop. Service Projects : Our scouts put in many hours of volunteer work this year, serving food to the homeless, preparing meal packets, volunteering at BSA events and camps and manning a First Aid station and camping demonstration at the ADAMS Picnic. Rank Advancement : Many of our scouts advanced in Rank. Nine new scouts joined our troop, three scouts advanced to Tenderfoot, three to Second Class Scout, four to First Class Scout, and one to Star Scout. Adult Leader : Three new assistant Scoutmasters have joined our troop. Volunteer : Seven Adult Volunteers have registered with the troop. Trained Leader : One leader completed BSA training. Leader Recognition : Two adults in our troop were recognized as Outstanding Unit Scouters at the Goose Creek District Annual Adult Leader Dinner. PLC : Patrol Leader Council was elected first time where Troop 1576 would entirely run by scouts youth leaders. All of the boys performed ‘Duty to God’ Emblem.
