Asalamu alaykum!!
Greetings of Peace!

We are homeschooled Junior Troop #5186,
made up of new and returning Girl Scouts,
ages 9-11 and in grades 4th-6th.

We are members of the
Girl Scouts Council of the Nation's Capital
www.gscnc.org
.

We participated in World Thinking Day at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Herndon on the morning of Saturday, February 25th.

Thinking Day, February 22, is the time when Girl Guides and Girl Scouts the world over focus on the true meaning of the Guiding and Scouting movements, considering the ties that exist among all members of WAGGGS.  Thinking Day is celebrated with internationally-themed events, and troops often pick this time of year to learn about cultures from other nations and Scouting or Guiding in other countries.

We chose to learn about Brazil and soccer in Brazil.  We prepared a large display which included geographic information about Brazil, prepared Brazilian coffee, created Brazil-themed party favors, and made presentations to other Girl Scouts visiting our booth.

Here's an article which featured our fifth annual Eid party.  It's one of our favorite traditions because we invite our fellow
sister Girl Scouts from all over Herndon:

Alhamdulillah, once again, the ADAMS community generously donated diapers, baby wipes, clothing, gift certificates, books, and toys for needy families.  With your support, and in cooperation with the Muslim Inter-Community Network (MCN) our Brownie troop was able to give gift-filled bundles to ELEVEN families!  Ma sha' Allah!

This was truly a wonderful opportunity for our young Muslim girls to witness sadaqah (giving) and shukr (thankfulness to Allah).

May Allah (SWT) reward each of you for your du'a' and your donations!

On Friday, November 19th, over 50 Girl Scouts from the greater Herndon area joined ADAMS Center Girl Scouts for our annual Ramadan and Eid Party!  The girls played games, sang Girl Scout songs, created Islamic art, had dinner, and really got to know one another.  Parents and troop leaders enjoyed each other's company at a special ethnic dinner provided by ADAMS Girl Scouts troop parents.  Everyone had a great time, Alhamdulllah!  What a great opportunity for outreach and reinforcing friendships -- "Be A Sister to Every Girl Scout!"

Here are pictures of the two wonderful years
we were Daisys , Alhamdulillah!

The ADAMS Daisy Girl Scouts hosted a Ramadan and Eid Party for Daisy troops from St. Joseph's Catholic Church and from Herndon Elementary School.  All of the girls learned about Ramadan and Eid, had a great time, and earned the violet petal for their uniform for "Being A Sister to Every Girl Scout."  Congratulations, girls!

On January 24, 2003, the Daisys made Eid al-Adha cards for Palestinian orphans and earned their spring green petal for being "Compassionate and Caring."

On January 25, 2003, the Daisys conducted a Petal Ceremony during which they earned their purple petal for "Respecting Myself and Others." The Petal Ceremony was held during the ADAMS Center Formal Opening Ceremony. Here, the girls are singing "I'm A Daisy Girl Scout" after receving their petals.
