ADAMS CEP Curriculum Outline for KG - 3rd Grade

KG Curriculum

Arabic

Know Arabic alphabets alif to ya.
Color within outlines of the alphabets, learning shapes, colors, coordination, and how to follow directions. Recognize shapes and sounds in Qur'anic Arabic.
Visually know between ten and twenty Arabic words like Allah, Muhammad, and so on.
Memorize surah Fatiha, using audio or video tape

Islamic Studies

Know times of prayers.
Know actions ('arkaan') in prayers.
Know basics of wudu'
Know basic facts about the Prophet Muhammad SAW, with main focus on his moral excellence as a child, and a few general points of character as an adult.
Know five pillars of Islam, by name.
Know basic do's and don't's of Islam.
Memorize 'shahadah' and know its meaning.

1st Grade/Level Curriculum

Arabic

Know the Arabic alphabets, including vowels ('harakas') and shapes of letters in the beginning, middles and end of words.
Be able to read simple words with meanings (much practice needed).
Be able to read the three ?quls? to recite in prayers.

Islamic Studies

Understand the importance of 'khushu in prayers.
Know about events in the Prophet's life as a young adult, and adult to the point of the first revelation of 'Iqra, with relating it to the importance of education in Islam.
Know about the Prophet's friends, such as Abu Bakr, RA.
Brief stories about Prophets who are familiar in other religions, such as Ibrahim, Musa, and 'Isa AS.
Understand some characteristics of Muslims, such as, caring, forgiving, honesty, and how they can help make the world a better place.

2nd Grade/Level Curriculum

Arabic

Know how to read simple words.
Be able to read simple ayahs in simple surahs with explanation, and their application in life.
Memorize surah al-Kafiroon, al-Asr, and al-Masad.

Islamic Studies

Understand the concept of Islam as a way of life and the Qur'an as a guide.
Be able to offer salah correctly.
Learn about Fasting as the third pillar of Islam.
Learn about the early part of Prophet Muhammad's prophethood, and his patience and perseverance in the face of hardships in Makkah.
Learn about other prophets and books in Islam, as a continuation of the religion of Allah since Prophet Adam.
Understand additional characteristics of Muslims, such as self-control, trustworthiness, compassion as general qualities of mu'mins.

3rd Grade/Level Curriculum

Arabic

Be able to read the Qur'an.
Memorize surah al-Ma'un and An-Nasr.
Understand the meaning and application of surah al-Ma'un and An-Nasr.
Be able to recite the Adhan and lead prayers.

Islamic Studies

Understand the finer points of fasting as worship.
Gain basic understanding of tawhid.
Learn about Prophet Muhammad's life from his migration to Madina to his building a community of al-Ansar and al-Muhajireen in the light of the Qur'an.
Understand what 'seerah' is and wht it is important for Muslims to study it.
Understand the nature of relationship to others, such as parents, relatives, neighbors, elderly people, orphans, and the sick.
Engage in a project to demonstrate how Muslims can make the community a better place to live in.
