The All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) Condemns Terrorist Attack in Manhattan, New York.
ADAMS unequivocally condemns the terrorist attack that occurred yesterday in Manhattan. We send our sympathy and prayers to the victims and their families. We are saddened by this tragedy and stand firm in our commitment to work with our interfaith, civic, public policy and law enforcement partners to stop and prevent violence in all of its forms.
The Muslim community of New York is organizing an Interfaith Vigil which we encourage everyone to attend – https://www.facebook.com/ events/362423064204192/?ti=icl
It is sad to see this attack on the heels of the horrific Las Vegas attack, however, this is a reminder that we must work to protect our country from violence in all of its ugly forms.
We are sadly reminded of the 18 month period between 2012 and 2014 where we witnessed 355 mass casualty shootings and 74 school shootings that inflicted pain and suffering upon all us America, most of which were committed by deranged individual criminals acting on their own. We must not let the actions of lone wolf criminals lead to the vilification of any group of people, demonization of any community, or to a cycle of additional conflict or violence. All such acts of violence must be stopped.
As we have repeatedly said, no one can ever sanction the taking of innocent lives, which is expressly and repeatedly forbidden by the Holy Quran. See the following Fatwa (Religious Ruling) Against Terrorism https://www.adamscenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/FATWA_Muslims_Against_Terrorism.pdf
We again thank local, state and federal law enforcement for their vigilance and quick action in these cases, and for their continual commitment to risk their own lives to stop such perpetrators from doing further harm.
