The All Dulles Area Muslim Society(ADAMS) Deplores Horrific Mass Shooting in First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas. ADAMS expresses our most sincere condolence and deepest sympathy to the victims of the horrific, incomprehensible mass shooting which left 26 dead over 20 injured. We pray for the victims and their families of this tragic and unthinkable attack on a house of worship, which is, of course, an attack on all houses of worship. Muslims believe that if anyone kills one person, it is as if he/she has killed all of humanity, and if anyone saves one life, it is as if he/she has saved all of humanity. Nothing can possibly justify this evil domestic terror act, and we condemn it without with all our hearts.
It is unfathomable that 2017 has already seen 377 Mass shootings with over 500 dead and 1600 injured, following the 477 Mass Shootings with over 600 killed and almost 1800 injured in 2016. Also, it is important and very sad to note that in 2015, 13,286 people were killed and 26,819 people in the US by people maliciously using firearms. We cannot remain silent about this madness. We must come together in solidarity to end such violence and create safe and peaceful communities. ADAMS, therefore, supports organizations that seek to prevent gun violence like the Greater Washington chapter of Heeding God’s Call (http://www.heedinggodscall. org) and the National Organization – Faiths United to Prevent Gun Violence (http://faithsunited.org/about )
We are committed to working with our interfaith, public policy and law enforcement partners to end violence and extremism in all forms. ADAMS, therefore, applauds and thanks, local, state and federal law enforcement officials for their vigilance and help in stopping the vicious perpetrator of this attack from doing further harm.
